Michigan AEYC Annual Conference Location Information

In 1988, it was determined that the Michigan AEYC Annual Conference had outgrown the Kellogg Center at Michigan State University. For the 1989 conference, and beyond, a request for proposals was sent to The Westin Hotel Renaissance Center Detroit and the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel and Grand Center in Grand Rapids, the only properties large enough to house the conference, including overnight rooms. The proposal received from Grand Rapids better met the needs of the conference logistically and financially. After several years of successful conferences in Grand Rapids, and upon the decision of Michigan Department of Education to hold the Michigan Collaborative Early Childhood Conference in the greater Detroit area, Michigan AEYC decided to continue to hold the Michigan AEYC Annual Conference in Grand Rapids. Michigan AEYC has signed contracts through 2020, as it is logistically and financially responsible for the association to sign multi-year contracts.

The Amway Grand Plaza Hotel is owned by the Amway Hotel Collection, a subsidiary of Amway’s holding company Alticor. The Amway Grand Plaza Hotel is a member of the Curio Collection by Hilton, an affiliation that began in December 2015.

DeVos Place is named for Richard DeVos, who donated $20 million towards its construction. DeVos Place is owned by the Grand Rapids-Kent County Convention/Arena Authority and is managed by Southern Management Group (SMG)

Michigan AEYC is a non-partisan, not-for-profit association.
